A coalition made up of RootsAction, CODEPINK, Peace Action, Progressive Democrats of America, Peace for Okinawa Coalition, and others will demand senators reject Rahm Emanuel to be Ambassador to Japan, today, Monday, September 27 at 12 noon ET on the Capitol steps, east side.
President Biden nominated Emanuel to be the next Ambassador to Japan. But his shameful record as mayor of Chicago, especially his role in the cover-up of the police murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, should disqualify him for any position in the Biden administration. It should disqualify him for any government or elected position.
Emanuel is going to face a Senate confirmation hearing. It’s on activists and progressive organizations to make sure that Democratic senators do the right thing.
In the worlds of Congressman Jamaal Bowman: “Rewarding Rahm Emanuel’s cover-up of Laquan McDonald’s murder with an ambassadorship is not an act that reflects a value of or respect for Black lives.”
